KIDS: Llama Costume

I just love seeing kids dressed up as animals. This DIY llama costume by Oh Happy Day is just too adorable! The hardest part is making the llama’s head, but otherwise you could pair it with a super cute furry jacket and leggings like this girl is wearing, or you could even just use simple tan leggings and a long sleeved tshirt.

What’s so clever is that this costume is made mostly from a knitted beanie (filled with stuffing), and an old mop head. You can use felt to create eyelashes and rubber bands to create ears. Be sure to stop by Oh Happy Day for the full tutorial.

ADULTS: DIY French Press Costume

If you like punny costumes, then this DIY French Press Costume is for you! What’s great about this costume is that people won’t always immediately get what it is, and it makes a great conversation starter. Plus, you get to dress up all cute and French but your costume is also extra clever.

You could put together the costume a lot of different ways, but a simple striped shirt and a red beret go a long way. For a guy, you could also add a silly little french mustache. I also think that the fancy cigarette and tea cup are also nice touches. Tabitha even made her “Press” button out of a stick on light, like this! Tabitha used stickers to spell “Press”, taped the outside of the light, and spray painted the entire thing red! Pretty clever, huh?

KIDS: Easy Lion Costume

Not only is this lion costume by A Night Owl Blog ridiculously adorable, it’s also super easy to make. There is absolutely no sewing required, and all you really need is yarn and scissors to make the mane. Then just add on a nose ans whiskers with brown eye liner or face paint, and pair it with a yellow tshirt and jeans.

All you really need to know how to do is to make pom poms out of yarn. This lion costume would be perfect for Halloween, or a special costume party, but it’s also so cute and simple it would be a fun craft to make and to add to your kid’s costume collection for fun and creative dress-up play.

Adults: DIY Stick Figure Costume

This costume idea is super fun, especially for someone going out in the dark: a glow in the dark DIY stick figure costume. In general, this is a pretty easy costume to put together, but there are also a few tricky things about it that can go wrong, so you want to be prepared. Check out the full tutorial here, and see all of Jamie’s great tips and experiences when putting together and wearing this costume.

A few important things to remember:

1. Get the extra large glow sticks, and get extras. Some don’t work well, or burn out quickly.

2. Bring extra tape with you, just in case it starts to fall off.

3. Use clear tape so that it doesn’t cover up the light of the glow sticks.

This costume is hilarious and would be a huge hit. It’s great for an adult, but also would be fun for kids. Be sure to check out the full post, and watch the hilarious video!

Couples: Quail Man and Patty Mayonnaise Costume

If you grew up watching Nickelodeon in the 90s like me, then you will totally appreciate this amazing couple’s costume! Quail Man and Patty Mayonnaise! Quail Man was the super cool alter ego of Doug, my very favorite TV show as a kid. My brother always loved Rugrats, and I loved Doug. In general, this is a pretty easy costume to make yourself. Most of the pieces are things you may already have or could pick up super cheap at the thrift store (although I’d suggest buying some new white tighties to wear outside of your shorts, lol).

A few tips for making these costumes. To properly make the classic Quail Man belt headband, you will probably need to cut up an old belt. Size the belt perfectly for your head, and cut off the extra piece. Hot glue the belt together into a head band. Then using hot glue, attach the end piece of the belt to the inside of the headband. Also, to add the Q to the shirt, you could just use fabric paint to paint it on to an old tshirt. If you wanted to make something a little more permanent, you could also use iron-on vinyl and a cutting machine. For Quail Man’s cape, you could just tie a red blanket or towel around your neck, or you could pick up a yard of red fleece or fabric at the craft store. Patty’s costume is much simpler, and really just involves putting the right pieces of clothing together, and maybe adding some pink polka dots to a blue shirt.

ADULTS: Deer Costume

This DIY deer costume from Flattery is especially beautiful. The hardest part about this costume is probably making the antlers, which are made out of aluminum foil and paper mache. The body of the costume is made with a brown unitard, some furry fabric, a little felt, and some fabric paint. The most dramatic part of the costume is the deer makeup. You will need a white eye crayon, or white face paint to create the white deer eyes, but otherwise the makeup is pretty standard.

BABY: Cow Costume with an Udder

There’s something so adorable about a baby in a costume. I especially love DIY costumes that are made with a onesie. This cow costume by Make It & Love It is just perfect. The cow onesie is really simple and easy to make, and you could definitely make it without a sewing machine or sewing at all. The fleece hat is slightly more complicated, but it is easier than you might think with a free pattern. Even if you don’t have a sewing machine, you could hand stitch this little hat pretty quickly. And of course the UDDER is the cutest and most hilarious part of all.
